A tragic workplace incident has left the Eastpointe, Michigan community reeling after Jennifer Harris, a 39-year-old McDonald’s manager and mother of six, was fatally stabbed by an employee on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
According to Michigan State Police, the fatal stabbing occurred at the McDonald’s on 9 Mile Road after Harris reportedly sent an employee home early following a workplace dispute. The employee, a 26-year-old woman whose name has not yet been released, allegedly returned a short while later armed with a knife and attacked Harris.
The horrifying assault unfolded in front of customers. One customer in the drive-thru, who witnessed the stabbing, fired a shot into the air in an attempt to stop the violence. Fortunately, no one was hit by the gunfire. The suspect then tried to flee the scene, but the same customer pursued her and held her at gunpoint until authorities arrived.
Emergency responders rushed Harris to the hospital, but despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
Harris, affectionately known as “Jamma” by her family, had worked at McDonald’s for 15 years. She was described as a dedicated employee and a loving mother. Her oldest daughter shared that the two employees had previously gotten along, making the brutal turn of events even more painful for the family to comprehend.
A witness at the scene recounted the moment the suspect returned wearing a mask and launched a frenzied attack. “She started stabbing her and I ran for help, shouting for anyone to assist,” said the witness. “I tried to stop her, but it was no use—she stabbed her everywhere.”
The customer who intervened is a licensed concealed pistol holder (CPL), and police commended his actions, stating that without his intervention, the suspect may have escaped. Authorities emphasized that the situation could have worsened if not for the customer’s bravery.
The McDonald’s restaurant, which is locally owned and operated, remains closed as the investigation continues. Franchise owner Yusef Alcodray released a statement expressing his deep sorrow over the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones,” said Alcodray. “Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our restaurants. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and prioritizing the safety and well-being of our employees and customers.”
The suspect is currently in police custody, but further details about charges or her identity have not been made public. Police continue to investigate the motive behind the attack.
